Description
A small merlin broke through the heavy, humid air and landed on my weathered log boom resting at the water's edge. It stood motionless for a moment, letting the cool breeze rising off the surface soothe its feathers, before moving into the shallows for a splash. The cool lake water was the only relief left as the Kootenays' July sun beat down, pushing temperatures high and driving wildlife lakeside.
