Description
These three seals are enjoying the sun, with their head / snout above water, basking in the sun in calm waters. They love taking short power naps (bottling) like this with their head above water. I love watching them, giving me a glimpse into their marine habitat. I have loved seals since I am a young child and it brings me joy when I get the chance to see some.
I am sad that seal hunting has started recently along the Northumberland strait without any public consultation. I have already observed a change in their behavior when boats approach them this summer (compared to past years / decades), since the seal hunt has started. They also have to look out for Great white sharks, as their strong seasonal presence in Atlantic Canada is increasingly being documented. A Great white "pinged" in this exact location last summer. Amongst the tagged sharks (just the tip of the iceberg compared to their actual numbers!), we have over a dozen currently that have "pinged" in our waters recently!
