British aircraft designer R.J. Mitchell designed the Seagull, a precursor to the famous British Spitfire. It is known that Mitchell was fascinated with the aerodynamics of the Seagull. There is no direct evidence, however, to suggest that the Spitfire was inspired by the Seagull. Beautiful flyers they are in any case.
