As the day begins, a piping plover chick stretches into the light, still half-tucked in Dad’s warm downy embrace. Under his watchful eye, this brave little chick prepares to take on the world—one tiny step at a time. In a province where the endangered piping plovers are disappearing fast, survival starts with strong family ties. With fewer than 60 breeding pairs, every sunrise with a chick is a small victory.
