Description
It's a bit of a challenge to get a nice close-up of these little guys since they tend to be flighty and fast. Fortunately for me I spied this one perched very nicely on a spirea bush with my camera in hand. Females are blue with expanded dark brown margins so I'm assuming this one with lighter margins is a male. There are one or two very small black spots near the single hair-like hindwing tail. Everes amyntula is found in Canada from northeastern Quebec to Vancouver Island, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories, with a single record from Nunavut at Coppermine. An isolated population occurs in the Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec and in northern New Brunswick.
