Description
While photographing Bald Eagles along the St. Clair River recently, I noted this adult eagle land on the ice just a short distance away from 5 Common Mergansers. They didn't seem worried, and hardly moved, whether from fright or from the fact that if this eagle did show signs of aggression, they could easily dive underwater. Bald Eagles are seldom successful in picking off healthy animals. They do specialize in feeding on crippled animals such as fish, muskrat and occasionally ducks.
